top jacksonville family neighborhoodsJacksonville is a family city. Nearly 65% of households in the city limits have children, a figure that
increases the farther you go from downtown. This is good news for any family hoping to buy a home in Jacksonville, since every neighborhood will have other families living in it. A few, though, are better for raising kids than others. We’ve compiled five of the best Jacksonville neighborhoods for young families to live in.

1. San Marco – A City Dweller’s Paradise

If you’re looking for city living at its finest, San Marco may be just the neighborhood for you. This historic district offers great dining options, upscale boutiques and great culture. Enjoy sunsets and family picnics in Riverfront Park, try some of the best restaurants Jacksonville has to offer, and enjoy a family outing during the San Marco Art Festival every April and November. If you’re an urban family looking for an artistic element, you are sure to find it in San Marco.

2. Deercreek – Top Notch Education

With some of the lowest crime statistics and highest graduation rates in Jacksonville, Deer Creek is a safe, stable neighborhood for families. Houses in Deer Creek tend to retain their value as well—though all of this comes at a cost. The average price of homes here is 45% higher than in the rest of Jacksonville, which makes it less accessible to first time home buyers.

3. Southside – Calm Suburbia

Families looking for a more affordable market should consider Southside. Offering seven grocery stores and nine parks within a mile radius, development in the neighborhood was designed for homeowners with children. Southside is home to St. Johns Town Center, a 1.1 million-square-foot, open-air lifestyle center that has innovative retail, residential, hotel and dining. The area also boasts a low cost of living, 15% lower crime reports than the rest of Jacksonville, and an 89% high school graduation rate.

4. Orange Park – Perfect for Outdoor Lovers

If being in the heart of Jacksonville isn’t your top priority, consider buying a home in Orange Park. A popular neighborhood for Naval families and urbanites who miss a rural setting, Orange Park offers plots with enough land for horses with only a 45-minute drive into the city. Orange Park has plenty of camping, water sports and hiking, which is great for families who enjoy the outdoors. The area has access to the St. Johns River, Doctor’s Lake and Black Creek, which makes it ideal for wake boarding, fishing, and other water sports or relaxation.

5. Oceanway – Affordable Riverfront Living

More affordable housing can be found in Oceanway, to the northeast of downtown. Low cost of living and median values for riverfront houses make this a desirable location for first-time home buyers. The neighborhood is accessible to family-friendly destinations like the Jacksonville Zoo. Oceanway has a large shopping center and is now one of the fastest growing areas in the city.
