Minneapolis is a great metropolitan spot to visit in the summertime (and its twin city St. Paul is pretty great, too). We’ve gathered some great info on places to live in the city in the past. But if you just want to visit and see what the area has to offer, here are some great spots to make your summer adventures unforgettable!
Take a stroll on the Midtown Greenway
There’s nothing better than a summertime stroll, especially when it’s bright and sunny! The Midtown Greenway is a former railroad corridor that a local coalition has reshaped into 5.5 miles of bike and walking trails. The area is mostly separated from Minneapolis’ streets, and connects with several other walking paths throughout the city.
Catch a show
For the music lover, look no further than First Avenue & 7th Street Entry. It’s one of the oldest running independently owned venues in the United States, and has won numerous awards. The venue has three different performance spaces in one building. It hosts more than 550 concerts annually, and there’s sure to be something to meet anyone’s tastes.
If theater is a bit more your fancy, you can’t go wrong with the Guthrie Theater. The 50-year-old venue features all different types of performance, from musicals to contemporary dramas. There’s also plenty of restaurants nearby where you can grab a bite to eat before or after the show.
Admire the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park
Billed as one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the Minneapolis park system, the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park has plenty of opportunities. Feel like chilling at a beach? Check. Want to try out your sea legs on a canoe? Check. Food and drink nearby? Check. You’ll also find plenty of opportunities to listen to music and watch movies on the big in the park.
Catch a game at Target Field
Sports more your thing? Home of the Minnesota Twins, Target Field is a great spot to sit and relax while watching America’s pastime. The field offers a wide spread of different concession options, as well as various seating selections for any price range. But if you sit in the stands, make sure you bring a hat and sunscreen — it can get pretty sunny!
Take a Segway Tour
A Segway tour is a great way to explore a new city without having to tire yourself out hoofing it. Minneapolis has plenty of different tour and rental companies that will help you get the most bang for your buck from your city tour. There’s nothing better than zooming along the sidewalk, taking in the sights as you go.
Visit the Minnesota State Fair
A great way to wrap up the summer, the Minnesota State Fair runs from August 25 to September 5. The end of the fair just so happens to coincide with Labor Day, so it could be a great way to wrap up your holiday weekend! The fair features musical and other main stage events, an adventure park, agricultural and animal exhibits, and more. It’s sure to be fun for the whole family!
